PocketBook has announced PocketBook InkPad Lite, an affordable 9.7-inch dedicated e-reader with great features, an open ecosystem and support for a plethora of ebook formats.
It will be released in October. You can pre-order yours for just RM 1249 today on the Rects and Squares online store.
The InkPad Lite has a 9.7-inch E INK Carta display, with a resolution of 1200 x 825 (150 PPI). This may seem like a letdown, as it is significantly lower than the 300 PPI display you’d find on PocketBook Touch HD 3, Kindle Paperwhite 4 and many other smaller e-readers but do keep in mind that almost every large-screen eInk device today features a 227 PPI display, including Kobo Elipsa, Remarkable 2 and Boox Air. And they cost twice as much as the InkPad Lite, if not more. You will certainly notice aliasing if you look closely, but seeing as it’s a larger device, you’ll likely hold it further away from your eyes, so the reading experience, as a result, should still be good.
It has a front light system with colour temperature control (warm light), which we’re delighted to see on a large screen e-reader at this price point.
The InkPad Lite features a redesigned shell with slim bezels, a metal frame, and a row of physical buttons along the edge of the right bezel. This gives users the option of navigating using the capacitive eInk display, or the physical keys, which can also be mapped to various settings and functionality. For example, you may configure a key to turn the front light on/off when long-pressed.
PocketBook e-readers are loved by millions around the world because of the openness of the PocketBook ecosystem. Modern PocketBook e-readers support more than 20 ebook formats including EPUB, MOBI, PDF, ACSM, LCP DRM, CBZ, CBR and many more. This makes it possible for users to read books purchased from various book stores on their e-readers, including Google Play Books, Kobo as well as ebooks.com. It’s also possible to read books borrowed from your local library.
Do keep in mind that this is a dedicated e-reader through and through. It has basic note-taking functionality, but it’s never going to come close to a Remarkable or a Supernote tablet in the realm of note-taking. If you’re looking for a dedicated e-reader that is affordable, reliable and capable of reading pretty much any ebook format you throw at it, then this would be a great option.
InkPad Lite is available for pre-order on the Rects and Squares online store. We ship worldwide, and all orders will be fulfilled in October.
